Downham Market to King's Lynn
Recommended: An excellent, predominantly rural riverside route along an embankment beside the river, on mostly flat, firm ground through meadows. It is very exposed to wind and rain with no shelter and there is a step-over stile at the Downham Market end. Follows the Fen River Way; very quiet away from King's Lynn. Several interesting churches along the river are worth visiting, including the ruined church at Wiggenhall St Peter.
Waterway: nine tenths along the River Great Ouse.
Time: 5h30–10h30
Lunch: A couple of pubs along the way.
Warnings: The route is fully exposed to the weather with no shelter from wind or rain. A step-over stile at the Downham Market end limits access.

Downham Market to Brandon

Littleport to Downham Market
Flat and straightforward along the river bank, with little shade. The first part beside the busy, noisy A10 is not enjoyable; the route becomes quieter and more pleasant after the river bends away at Denver Cruising Club and though some minor roads are busier than expected. Follows the Fen Rivers Way.
Waterway: nine tenths along the Great Ouse or Ten Mile River.
Time: 5h–10h30
Lunch: The Jenyns Arms pub at Denver Sluice now appears to be permanently closed, so carry your own refreshments.
Warnings: Follows a busy road for a quarter of the walk. Loose dogs were encountered near a property around 1km south of Denver Sluice, one of which bit a walker; the minor road between Ten Mile Bank and Denver Sluice was busier than expected; little shade on hot days.
Walk details: Slow Ways.
