Sileby Station to Melton Mowbray Station

20km. Moderate ascents.

The A46 can only be crossed safely at very limited points; this route uses a road with no pavement but adequate verges instead. Stiles and slippery mud.

Sileby Station to Syston Station

A short, fairly easy, direct route starting on pavements, then crossing two large arable fields, passing under the A46 beside the river, over the River Wreake and along the Wreake Valley cycle path. The field paths may be unclear or wet when crops are growing; some sections on roads. Plank bridges over ditches. Public toilet in the Syston car park.

Easy: 5km, gentle ascents.

Field paths across the two large fields can be unclear and potentially wet when crops are growing. Plank bridges cross ditches. The path under the A46 can be a bit overgrown in summer.

End-of-walk reward: Hideaway Cafe.

Loughborough Station to Sileby Station

A cross-country walk that starts along the Loughborough canal, then crosses fields and briefly woodland in the Soar valley, with narrow paths and bridges to negotiate. It can be quite muddy towards the end and is prone to flooding in wet weather and with a number of steps and stiles. Barrow upon Soar makes a good stop roughly halfway.

Easy: 10km, gentle ascents.

The Soar valley floods quite frequently and the route can become impassable after heavy rain, with stiles surrounded by water and lanes underwater; a couple of big roads to cross, and a herd of cows and a farm with a 'dogs loose' sign en route. Can be muddy.

Lunch: Quite a few nice pubs along the way, with Barrow upon Soar a good half-way stop for a drink.
