Set out on beautiful walks that start or end at the centre of Mansfield.

Mansfield Station to Mansfield Woodhouse Station

A short, direct, flat urban route on suburban roads, a main road and city streets, entirely on pavements. There are steps from Mansfield bus station down to Stockwell Gate and avoidable via Quaker Lane. Good road crossings. Trains and buses run between Mansfield and Mansfield Woodhouse.

Easy: 2km, moderate ascents.

The A60 (Woodhouse Road) is busier but not oppressive. Note that the GPX shows misleading straight lines at both stations and across the railway; access to Mansfield Woodhouse station is only from the north end.

Lunch: Shops and pubs along the way.

Shirebrook Station to Mansfield Woodhouse Station

A fairly direct, well-plotted route, a little muddy in places, with lots of green: residential streets, the River Meden crossing, bridleways and tracks running parallel to the railway past the Sports Direct warehouse and a former-colliery country park. Motorcycle 'A' barriers and step-stiles at the railway level crossing are the only obstacles; no cattle or fields. No services in the centre section.

6km.

Two step-stiles either side of a railway level crossing; an overgrown stony path leads down to it. Muddy in places.
