Ravenglass Station to Millom Station

Much of the route is on busy roads, some narrow and twisty and without a footpath. It includes a tidal crossing of the River Esk.

Tough: 22km. Moderate ascents.

Too much of the route is on busy, narrow roads with no footpath, and the crossing of the River Esk depends on the tides and is hazardous.

Short coastal walk; the GPX route avoids fording the River Irt.

Ravenglass Station Circular via Walls Castle

Easy, mostly level circular round the old Roman port of Ravenglass: the bath-house ruins at Walls Castle, the estuary beach and the La'al Ratty narrow-gauge railway.

Highlights: Walls Castle (The standing remains of a Roman bath house at the second-century port of Ravenglass), the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (A narrow-gauge heritage railway, known as La'al Ratty, running inland from Ravenglass to Eskdale), and Muncaster Castle (A historic castle with extensive gardens and grounds on the slopes above the River Esk near Ravenglass).
