Best walks from Levenshulme

Levenshulme Station to Stockport Station
A direct urban route to the west of the railway, mostly on pavements with occasional parks and a riverside cycle track along the Mersey. Largely flat, could be walked in street shoes and with a short muddy path and some steps. Makes use of the Trans Pennine Trail; passes Stockport Viaduct and the James Ainsworth Almshouses; links to Heaton Chapel station and buses on Parsonage Road.

Levenshulme Station to Gorton Station
An excellent, almost entirely off-road and accessible route on smooth paved surfaces, mostly traffic-free and following the path of a former canal and then the Fallowfield Loop disused railway cycle track. Easy walking; a final footpath to Gorton Station is grotty. Follows the former Stockport branch canal and the Fallowfield Loop cycle path, passing Highfield Country Park, small reservoirs, and the curious remains of the Gorton Aqueduct over the railway. Train stations at both ends.
Easy: 5km, moderate ascents.
Lunch: Plenty of amenities in Levenshulme, including the Levenshulme Antiques Village; less in Gorton.

Manchester Oxford Road Station to Levenshulme Station
A direct urban route mostly on pavements through residential streets, passing interesting architecture and small parks and avoiding the busiest roads. Mostly flat and easy underfoot. Passes the Victoria Baths and Elizabeth Gaskell's house, and near the Alan Turing statue and Chinatown Arch; good bus links and shops en route.

East Didsbury Station to Levenshulme Station
An accessible, level and direct suburban walk on paved footpaths throughout, passing through Fog Lane Park and by several others and with dropped kerbs at crossings. Crosses the Fallowfield Loop, a former railway line now a popular cycle path. Levenshulme station has steps and no lift.

Lunch: A couple of parades of shops on the way, with a short detour to a large supermarket in Burnage.
