Burnham-on-Crouch Station to Southminster Station

the wonderful wide open skies of the Dengie and its countryside. A short, rural route showcasing the wide open skies and countryside of the Dengie. The first and last miles are mostly quiet country lanes; the middle mile is across fields, perfectly passable in mid-December. Some narrow paths, uneven ground and three stiles (some broken or stepless). A good chance of seeing hares. You can return between the two ends by train.

Easy: 5km, flat terrain.

The road crossing at the start near Burnham Station is the only busy road. A road bridge over the railway has no pavement, but plenty of grass verge and little traffic. The field path may be unmaintained and hard to discern depending on the season's planting.

Shops and pubs further along the road in Southminster.
