Potters Bar Station to Waltham Cross Station

A varied but not greatly varied route mixing suburban streets, cycle paths, hedged farm tracks through fields and woods, wooded tracks up to a picturesque village. Includes a steep 19% hill with good views and a steep downhill through woodland and plus a narrow winding rooty path. Marked paths in places have gone or are overgrown. Follows the Hertfordshire Way through Hemps Hill. Northaw is a picturesque village with a tap inside the church gate and a pub; Cuffley has shops and cafes for refreshment.

Enfield Town Station to Waltham Cross Station

A green walk through parks and along the New River, with residential streets at the Enfield end. Some steps and kissing gates and the riverside path can be slippery in wet weather. Crosses the M25 using green space above the Holmesdale Tunnel. Passes Turkey Street station for an easy drop-out.

Lunch: A kebab restaurant in Waltham Cross sits conveniently on the route.

Cheshunt Station to Waltham Cross Station

A short, indirect walk on paved roads at each end and well-made paths through the Lee Valley Regional Park in the middle, passing lakes, grassland, nature reserves and woods. The railway is crossed twice and with footbridges with many steps. The middle section runs through Lee Valley Regional Park, which has more to explore including the Olympic White Water Centre. Cheshunt station is reachable shortly before the route end, linking to routes further north.

Easy: 3km, flat terrain.

Two railway crossings: an automated crossing at the south end (you may need to wait) and a tall footbridge with many steps at the north. The park is unlit at night.
