Burgess Hill to Uckfield
Recommended: Really peaceful. A peaceful route mainly on field paths and woodland tracks through the Low Weald clay country of small fields, hedgerows and patches of woodland, with a short section of road walking. Actively farmed land with arable, mowed hay and recently ploughed fields; numerous stiles and gates and footbridges. Passes through Ditchling Common; occasional glimpses of the South Downs; the churches at Chailey and Newick have quiet benches in the churchyards; there is a memorial to Polish WW2 squadrons near Plumpton Green.
Woodland: a fifth under tree cover.
Time: 5h–10h30
Lunch: Newick has several pubs, a bakery and a village shop a short diversion off the route.
Warnings: Fields containing cattle and sheep; numerous stiles, gates and footbridges to negotiate; one field is home to camels you must not walk through.
Walk details: Slow Ways.

Lewes to Uckfield
A lovely, scenic route along the banks of the rivers Uck and Ouse. A scenic, almost entirely off-road and flat valley walk following the Rivers Uck and Ouse, partly along an old railway line. Rural obstacles throughout (stiles, kissing gates, larger gates) and paths that can be very muddy in wet weather and with knee-high wet vegetation in places. Follows the Sussex Ouse Valley Way and an old railway line; passes through the new Horsted Green Park (not yet on OS maps). Expect cattle and horses.
Time: 4h–8h30
Lunch: Isfield and Barcombe Mills both have pubs just off the route.
Warnings: Can be muddy.
Walk details: Slow Ways.
Reverse direction: the Saturday Walkers Club.

Haywards Heath to Uckfield
An attractive route. An attractive route passing through hay meadows, cattle pastures, cereal fields and the wild heathland of Chailey Common, taking in pretty villages. Well traced on the map, but some sections have missing fingerposts and broken stiles and one stretch is very overgrown. Passes through the villages of Newick and Scaynes Hill, and across Chailey Common.
Time: 5h–9h30
Lunch: Pubs and village stores in Newick and Scaynes Hill.
Warnings: The worst section, about 1.5 miles from Uckfield between the A22 roundabout and a disused railway embankment, is rarely used and very overgrown, wading through bracken, nettles and brambles. Some broken stiles and missing fingerposts; sat nav helps keep direction across Chailey Common.
Walk details: Slow Ways.
