Exeter Central Station to Topsham Station
A lovely route overall. A direct, 100% paved route on pavements alongside mostly minor roads and cycle paths, passing the Cathedral Green and through leafy St Leonards and Ludwell Valley Park nature reserve. Suitable for wheels; safe and easy underfoot and with no flooding issues. Follows the line of Devon County Council's new cycle route; one path alongside the railway is not for bikes (cyclists divert via Newcourt).

Crediton Station to Exeter Central Station
incredible views from Stoke Hill. A long, varied route alternating quiet country lanes with footpaths through the Devon countryside and with a stretch along the River Creedy and a high crossing over Stoke Hill. Some mud in wetter seasons; road sections are short and quiet. Several points intersect the Exeter-Crediton bus route (369 or 5) if the walk is too long. Starts through Shobrooke Park past ancient trees.
Tough: steep ascents. 20km.
Crossing the A396 Tiverton Road is a fast road, so cross only when clear in both directions.
Lunch stop: the Beer Engine.
