Walks from Gainsborough

A long route leaving the A159 onto an access road and footpaths and following the course of a small river between south and north banks before crossing fields and the railway into Kirton in Lindsey.

Time: 7h30 (5h30 walking, 1h30 lunch, 30m break)

Warnings: Gainsborough Central and Kirton Lindsey are both on the Saturdays-only Brigg line — a few trains on Saturdays, none midweek.

A walk that begins with all-road walking to Sturton-by-Stow, then a mixture of tracks and footpaths, then field paths that can be heavy going when recently cultivated or ploughed and before a long walk through the outskirts of Gainsborough. Sturton-by-Stow has a Co-op for a break.

Warnings: Follows a busy road for a fifth of the walk. The road section to Sturton-by-Stow is quite busy, requiring you to step onto the verge for passing cars. Gainsborough Central is served only by the Saturdays-only Brigg line — a few trains on Saturdays, none midweek.

A mostly good route on rights of way. One path southwest of Bole was an impenetrable mix of bramble shoots and hedge clippings.
