Selby to Snaith (Yorkshire)
1 hour from Harrogate, with one change.
Recommended: Great views. Very flat and easy walking: a canal towpath, a good-surfaced path across a former airfield, then open countryside, lanes and tracks and a flood bank and a bridge over the River Aire. Just short stretches of busy and verge-only road. Follows the Trans Pennine Trail across Burn Airfield, which has benches and interpretation boards; you may see gliders taking off and landing.
Time: 4h–7h30
Warnings: A short stretch of busy road at the start, and a section of roadside walking with no pavement on a straight part of Hirst Road. Snaith has only around three trains a day.
Walk details: Slow Ways.

Featherstone to Castleford (Yorkshire)

Recommended: A largely step-free, fairly clear route on roads, paths and through a pair of parks, with a brief stretch of industrial ground between them. A field path leads out of Featherstone and the road into central Castleford is quite long.
Time: 2h–4h
Warnings: The path runs close beside the M62 for about ten minutes, with heavy traffic noise; you are safely behind a hedge.

Morley to Leeds (Yorkshire)
45 minutes from Harrogate, with one change.
Great view of Leeds from the top of the rise. A mix of rural and urban with great views towards Leeds: downhill through Morley, residential streets, the last few fields before the city, then past White Rose, along a busy ring road, up to Beeston and a high ridge with a steep grassy drop to a footbridge over the M621, through Holbeck, a final canal- and riverside approach with steps up to the station. Plenty of steps and some uneven and steep footpaths.
Time: 2h30–5h
Warnings: A fifth urban. Steps and some uneven, steep footpaths; a steep grassy bank drops to the M621 footbridge. A busy ring road to walk along by White Rose.
Walk details: Slow Ways.

Wakefield Westgate to Normanton (Yorkshire)
45 minutes from Harrogate, with one change.
A walk that follows the river out of the Calder valley on the signposted TransPennine Trail, then through a country park with parkland paths, fields and lakeside tracks. The western part is on good paths; finding the right paths becomes tricky once away from the valley and with one section that can flood. Follows the signposted TransPennine Trail along the river. The Normanton meeting point has several benches.
Woodland: a quarter under tree cover.
Time: 2h30–4h30
Warnings: One slightly flooded section could be impassable in wetter conditions. Paths in the eastern half are hard to find and do not match the rights of way.
Walk details: Slow Ways.

Castleford to Knottingley (Yorkshire)
1 hour from Harrogate, with one change.
A very pleasant, easy-to-navigate walk mixing gravel paths through a nature reserve with paved roads in Castleford and Knottingley, the nature-reserve middle section being the best part. There are areas of relatively steep incline, gates, a stile and field near Knottingley; trainers suffice in dry weather and boots in winter. The village of Fairburn, about halfway, is a good pause point for refreshments.
Waterway: two thirds along the River Aire.
Time: 3h30–7h
Lunch: Fairburn, about halfway, offers a refreshment stop.
Walk details: Slow Ways.

Keighley to Ilkley (Yorkshire)
1 hour from Harrogate, with one change.
Great views; amazing views to the south and east. A varied route climbing from town onto open moorland: cobbled paths and stone steps through Riddlesden, field and farm paths, then a long stretch of quiet but pavement-less moorland road (partly gravel) over Ilkley Moor and descending via steep cobbled and stepped paths and the tarmac paths of Mill Ghyll. Some unmarked sections. Crossing the moors there is rich birdlife including meadow pipits, curlew, lapwings, skylarks, swifts and buzzards. Good facilities at both ends.
Time: 3h–6h
Warnings: A long stretch of road onto Ilkley Moor with no usable verge (quiet but care needed); steep, rubbly short-cuts (Spicey Gill) that can be slippery and muddy when wet; some stiles and dilapidated gates; cattle and sheep in fields.
Walk details: Slow Ways.

Stunning Ilkley Moor with its natural rock sculptures, beautiful walk, stunning views. A walk skirting the edge of stunning Ilkley Moor on the established Dales Way/Ebor Way, with natural rock sculptures and views across the valley, before dropping into Menston and a more urban and suburban final stretch into Guiseley with a tedious last mile on a busy road. Wet and muddy paths and steep elevation; the climb up to Cow and Calf can be slippery in wet weather. Follows the established Dales Way and Ebor Way. Can be shortened or returned by train from Menston, an intermediate station. Passes the Abraham Moon and Sons woollen mill and its factory shop in Guiseley.
Time: 3h–6h
Lunch: Lots of places for refreshments and a bakery in Ilkley.
