Redcar Central Station to Marske Station

lovely coastal walk; the views over to the cliffs at Huntcliffe are superb; views are stunning. An easy, uncomplicated coastal walk starting along Redcar's promenade and the hard-surfaced esplanade and then over grassy dunes on a waymarked path before joining a footpath beside the road into Marske. The dune path can be a little muddy after rain; a roadside pavement offers a fully accessible alternative. An accessible alternative follows the footpath next to the road directly to Marske, suitable for wheelchair users or strollers. Plenty of places to stop for food and refreshments at the finish in Marske.

Easy: 4km, moderate ascents.

Plenty of places to stop for coffee or eat, and independent shops, in the centre of Marske.

Middlesbrough Station to Redcar Central Station

A direct route from town centre to beach through a semi-industrial landscape full of wildlife, running close to the railway line in places. Mostly grassed path with some paved or gravelled sections, plus a metal bridge and steps and anti-bike chicanes; narrow in places and prone to flooding next to a bog. Recommended detours to the Tees Transporter Bridge, the Clock Tower and Locke Park, which has plenty of wildlife and benches.

13km. Moderate ascents.

A 50-metre boggy section is impassable without wellies or hiking boots even in dry weather, with no way to bypass it. The path runs very close to passing trains in places. Can be muddy.
