Gourock Station to Greenock Central Station

all the coastal views were wonderful. A mostly gorgeous coastal walk along the off-road esplanade beside the Clyde Estuary, using an official cycle track from the station to avoid the first main-road section and railway steps. There are some stretches on the pavement of the main road and a more industrial section past the container terminal. Views across to Helensburgh.

6km.

Greenock Central Station to Port Glasgow Station

The views are wonderful. A straightforward route following the Clyde Coastal Path for most of the way: pleasant tarmac paths overlooking the Clyde estuary and with a less pleasant middle third diverting inland along the busy A8 on a wide pavement past dry docks and a marina. Follows the Clyde Coastal Path. Passes the old sugar warehouses, relics of the area's shipbuilding and shipping heritage.

Easy: 5km, moderate ascents.

The middle third runs along the busy A8 dual carriageway; a wide pavement is provided but the going is not pleasant. A busy dual carriageway crossing near Port Glasgow (pedestrian crossing provided).
