Camden Town Station to Wood Green Station

beautiful forest and London views. A hilly urban walk that climbs steeply out of Camden through Kentish Town and Highgate, then descends through woods and parks. Well-made pavements give way to steps and short and steep gradients through the green spaces; lovely tree cover and shade. Highgate Cemetery has an admission charge and limited opening; the southern entrance is not accessible. Public toilets at the top of Highgate.

Easy: 9km, moderate ascents.

The suggested route through Highgate Cemetery is often closed; stick to Swains Lane instead, which is a steep climb.

Lunch: Pubs, cafes and shops in Highgate Village, and refreshments at Waterlow Park and around Alexandra Palace.

Camden Town Station to Highbury & Islington Station

A pleasant urban route linking a series of green spaces and parks in inner north London via quiet roads. Easy walking and not the shortest route but takes in plenty of greenery. Links St Mary Magdalene gardens, Paradise Park, Caledonian Park, Camden Square gardens and St Martin's Gardens. A memorial tree to Amy Winehouse stands just outside the northwest entrance to Camden Square gardens.

Camden Town Station to London King's Cross Station

A short, easy city-centre route on quiet streets that quickly reaches the Regent's Canal towpath and with moored boats and waterside calm. Pleasant in daylight; the canal towpath is accessed by flights of steps. Easy to peel off to explore Camley Nature Reserve, Coal Drops Yard, Gasholder Park and St Pancras Gardens.

Easy: 2km, moderate ascents.

The canal towpath is accessible only via steps at both ends, reducing accessibility. The canal walkway is very slippery when wet.

Kilburn High Road Station to Camden Town Station

An easy urban walk on mostly quiet, generally wide streets and with a surfaced track through the park beneath Primrose Hill in the middle. There are some cobbles on the Kilburn side. Short detours lead to Abbey Road and up Primrose Hill for views over the city; London Zoo and Lord's Cricket Ground are close by.

Easy: 4km, moderate ascents.

Lunch: Plenty of distractions along the way including the Jazz Café, shops and pubs.

Hampstead Heath Station to Camden Town Station

A short, direct urban route following a main road that has been nicely traffic-calmed with wide pavements, plus genteel residential streets near Hampstead. One section has a slippery brick pavement when wet and there is a notable climb up to Hampstead Heath. Passes a historic Bauhaus building with a small museum and several Leslie Green underground stations with their distinctive dark-red tiles; showcases Camden Market.
